Dodgers’ Corey Seager day to day with hamstring injury

Corey Seager will be missing in action most of this week.

A $5 million payment goes to a player who has been diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The estate of a second player will receive $4 million because he was found after his Cheap Laker Jerseys Sale death to have chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative disease of the brain. Based on the payout amounts, both players played at least five seasons and were at least 45 years old.

The original settlement was approved in 2015 between the NFL and thousands of former players in a class-action lawsuit, and upheld in appeals court in 2016. The settlement process began accepting claims in late March, and a process for evaluating former players’ eligibility began June 6.

The AP reports nearly 15,000 former players have registered for benefits, out of a potential pool of more than 20,000. Players with Alzheimer’s, dementia, ALS or Parkinson’s are eligible for benefits.

Under terms of the original settlement, it “cannot be considered an admission by the NFL of liability, or an admission that plaintiffs’ injuries were caused by football.”

The Cowboys used back-to-back picks on cornerbacks, with Chidobe Awuzie from Colorado in the second round, and Jourdan Lewis out of Michigan in the third round. They also got a couple of late-round secondary players, safety Xavier Woods and cornerback Marquez White, in the sixth round.

The Cowboys brought in free agent Nolan Carroll, who previously played for the Eagles. Carroll was arrested for DWI this offseason and could miss time if the NFL decides to suspend him for it. These new players join Orlando Scandrick, who started 10 games for Dallas last year, and Anthony Brown, who had nine starts. There’s going to be a heated competition for starting roles.
